Choodakarana, a part of 16 Hindu Samaskaras is the first head shave of the boy and keeping of tuft (shika) for the boy, to be done at the age of 3.

“Choodakarma”  should be done at the age of 3. That is  after 2 years before the 3rd Birth day

Muhurtham should be fixed. “Punarvasu Nakshathram is the best one . It should be done in Sukla Paksha Only

Vedas say –” janmanathi thritheya varshoho – choouala panurvaousha”. An important fact to realise is that hair is there at the time of birth and death, unlike teeth will grows after birth and falls of in old age. Hair or Kesha will be there with the body from birth till the body is put to fire after death.

“Thasmath sikhaya madhyey  paramathma vyvasthithaha”, says Purusha Sooktha. In the middle of the shikha only “Paramathma” exists. To have the spiritual progress and for getting the results of all Vaideeka Karmas, Shikha (tuft/shendi) is must.

Vedas says Shikha is “Yashas” sign, in other words Shikha should  be their to attract wealth and prosperity. Shikha is considered as an organ of the body like eye, ear, hands, leg.

In olden days, removing the Shikha was one of the punishment for Brahmins. Once Shikha is removed he will become ineligible for all Vedic Karmas

Ganapathi Pooja , Anugna , Sankalpam, Uthakasanthi , Angurarpanam , Prathisarabandham , Nandi , Chaula Muhurtham , Kumarabhojanam. Aseervadam .
